The St. Joseph Mustangs are staying hot heading into the weekend, pushing their win streak to four games with an 8-4 win over the Jefferson City Renegades.
The Renegades would take an early lead, leading 2-0 after the first three innings of baseball, before the Mustangs would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take their first lead of the night 3-2.
Catcher Ben Click drove in two of his three RBI's as part of the inning on a single to left field and Bishop Leblond alumni Dakota Spicer would hit a sacrifice fly to right for the third run of the inning, driving in Michael Paule.
St. Joseph would get one more run in the sixth inning as outfielder Easton Bruce would hit his MINK league leading fourth home run of the year, pushing the lead to 4-2.
The Renegades would go on to tie the game at four a piece in the seventh inning, before the Mustangs would take the lead again for good in the eighth, with RBI's coming from Click and Spicer, the final two runs would be unearned as Savannah alum and current Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Noah Bodenhausen would reach on an error at first, allowing Spicer and Paule to come across home.
Click led the way in batting going 2-for-3 with his 3 RBI's. Spicer while he did drive in two runs, was 0-for-2 on the night. On the mound the Mustangs got six solid innings from Michael Infranca who gave up two runs, only one earned, on the night and struck out two while walking one. Bishop Leblond alum Jaren Guck would pitch two innings of relief and give up one unearned run, before Ryker Curry closed out the game in the ninth.
Jefferson City did outhit St. Joseph with eight hits to the Mustangs four, however both teams also recorded three errors on the night.
With the win the Mustangs improved their record to 9-5 on the season and currently sit behind the Carroll Merchants in the MINK League North. St. Joseph will be back in action on Saturday, hosting the Nevada Griffons, who the Mustangs are 2-0 against this season, with first pitch at 7pm.
