With flu season is right around the corner, the Doniphan County Health Department is getting ready to host an annual drive-thru flu clinic next month in Troy, Kansas.

Sheryl Pierce, RN Administrator with the Doniphan County Health Department, says the flu clinic has been offered for several years.  "We've done these for the past fifteen to eighteen years. We've done them because the public really likes them and they've requested we keep doing them."

Pre-registration is not required, but Pierce adds, "If you want to expedite the process, you can go to the post office, area banks and senior centers to pick up consent forms. There are also consent forms on our website that you can fill out ahead of time, although it is not mandatory." Forms will be available on site.

Pierce notes the clinic is only offering flu shots, not Covid-19 vaccine.

"We are just going to do the flu shots. Best practice on the Covid vaccine still says to wait about fifteen minutes on the premises where you receive the vaccine, so we felt for safety reasons we are just going to give flu shots."

Food trucks will also be on site this year, including the Coffee Bus, Scoop School Bus, and The Country Cabin food truck.

Pierce says Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances will be accepted. Participants must bring their insurance cards with them to receive the flu shot.

The Doniphan County Health Department will offer the flu clinic on October 11, from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
