Laura Lee Weckerlin 1938 - 2024

Laura Lee Weckerlin, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024.

She was born February 28, 1938 in Griswold, Iowa to Albert and Eva (Ireland) Viestenz.

Laura Lee attended a country school and graduated from Pickering High School, Pickering, MO. During her high school years, she was a Northwest Missouri basketball All Star. She then attended Gard Business College in St. Joseph. After attending business college, she went to work at Armour Meat Packing Company as secretary to the Transportation Dept. After one year of consolidation, she went to work at the offices of Wire Rope Corporation of America, Inc. After her children were in school, she went back to Wire Rope, working part-time between Quaker Oats and Wire Rope. Then she worked for Allen and Bill Schrieber and KFEQ radio, then back to Wire Rope until retirement in 2003.

She met the love of her life, Donald Weckerlin in 1957. They were married on June 7, 1959 at the Pickering Methodist Church. To that union were born two daughters, Karla Mosey (Mike) Grand Junction CO, and Leah Peek (Dennis) St. Joseph. There are three grandchildren, Lauren, Taylor and Joshua Peek and one great grandchild, Josiah Halvorsen, with several nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her brothers, Duane and Burton Viestenz.

Laura was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian Church since 1965. She was a deacon, small group leader choir member, speaker for Christian Women’s Club (CWC) and had a deep faith In GOD her Savior. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, daughter, sister, friend, and will be deeply missed. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Brookdale Presbyterian Church. Entombment Mount Mora Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
