Mary Louise Sowers, 81, of Country Club, MO formerly of Atchison, KS died on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Chiefs, Jay Hawk, Royal’s, or any sports attire are requested for those coming to the visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph’s Animal Shelter or the Trinity Lutheran Church Altar Guild and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Mary was born on June 19, 1940, in Atchison, KS the daughter of John and Isabelle (Marshall) Dorsey. She attended Atchison public schools. Mary worked as a nurse aid at the Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth for short time. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, the Altar Guild, served as a Kennedy Evangelism Caller, a Stevens Minister, attended Adult Bible Class and Team Classes, and was an organizer for the Craft Fair. She was an avid Chiefs, KU Jayhawk, and Royal’s Fan. She was proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed animals and her cats. Mary was a compassionate care giver to anyone in need.
She was married to Robert “Bob” Sowers on May 26, 1979, in Farley MO. Mr. Sowers survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Michael (Sue) Haskins, Colorado Springs, CO, a daughter Robin Haskins, St. Joseph, MO, three stepsons; Timothy (Kim) Sowers, Milton, FL, Dan (Carrie) Sowers, Atchison, KS and Patrick Sowers, Atchison, KS, a step daughter Karen (Jim) Hazlewood, Simi Valley, CA, three brothers; Gene (Patsy) Hazlett, St. Joseph, MO, Bill (Betty) Dorsey, John (deceased wife -Arlene)Dorsey, both of Atchison, KS, a sister Dotty (Sam) Burnett, Faucett, MO, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Her parents, stepdaughter Suzanne Rome, and three brothers Charles Hazlett, Jimmy and Ron Dorsey, preceded her in death.
