Michael Joseph Harris, age 79, of Atchison, KS, died on December 27, 2023, at his home. Mike was one of eight children of Charles J. and Frances (Curran) Harris from Greeley, NE, and made his home in Atchison. He was a graduate of Maur Hill Prep, where he met Caroline Miller. They were married in California, moved to Colorado and settled in Atchison, Kansas, close to family. They have four children together; Angela Harris-Spurlock; Mick Harris (Geri); Kelly Siebert (Jon); Charley Harris (Liz); and eleven grandchildren. Additional surviving family members include his brother, Ed Harris; and two sisters, Anne Harris and Mary Christensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Patricia Ballor, Jack Harris, Jim Harris and Paul Harris.
Mike was a software engineer in Kansas City and later started Harris Software Engineering in 1992. He was proud of his Irish Heritage, his four children and eleven grandchildren. He was a good grandpa and was dearly loved. He loved renovating old houses, solving problems on the computer and making simple but tasty meals, instant potatoes and gravy being his number one pick.
Mike met Chery Owens in 2005, and she proceeded to decorate his life and his home. They spent his last years together celebrating life, grandchildren and each other. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mike’s life on Saturday, January 13th at Paolucci’s Banquet Room. A rosary will begin at 5 p.m. with celebration of life to follow at 5:30 p.m. Cremation care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials may be left to St. Benedict Catholic School or Maur Hill-Mount Academy in care of the funeral home.
