Doris Jean Adkins, 93, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away at her home on Monday, September 2, 2024.
She was born in Conception Junction, MO, on May 2, 1931 to Emmitt and Ada Mae Cain. On December 23, 1949 she married Edward M. (Sam) Adkins.
Prior to retirement she worked at the State Hospital in St. Joseph, and then worked at Bliss Manor until it closed.
Survivors include her children, Ricky M. Adkins, Cheryl (Rick Alley) Adkins Bullock, Deborah (Alvan) Ellis, and Theresa (Paul) Montgomery, all of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a beloved cat.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son Stephen Adkins; one great-grandson, Bradon Krull.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter or to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be Monday, September 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
