No one injured in Nodaway County Jail fire, inmates taken to neighboring counties

MARYVILLE- Nodaway County Jail staff reported a fire in a men’s jail cell Thursday evening that prompted evacuations.

According to a Facebook post from the Nodaway County Sheriff's office, jailers began moving inmates from the jail with assistance from Maryville and Northwest Missouri State University Police.

The Maryville Fire Department quickly got the fire under control. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Due to fire, smoke and water damage, the Nodaway County Jail will be closed until further notice. The inmates have been moved to the Andrew and Buchanan County Jails.
