The Kansas City Royals losing streak moved to three games, a quiet offensive effort unable to back up a quality start by Seth Lugo, as the Chicago White Sox shutout the Royals 2-0 at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals had multiple chances to score, including in the third inning after Bobby WItt Jr hit a one out double, but could never push a runner past second base. They again had a chance in seventh inning after back to back singles by Maikel Garcia and Witt Jr, but Vinnie Pasquantino grounded out to end the inning.
One of the few highlights for Kansas City in the game came on defense, courtesy of Witt Jr. After Chase Meidroth singled to lead off the sixth inning, Munetaka Murakami lined a hit up the middle of the infield, where Witt Jr snagged it out of the air, running to second base for the tag before firing it to first base where Pasquantino picked it out of the dirt for the double play.
Chicago struck first in the fourth inning on Colson Montogmery's RBI double that drove in Munetaka Murakami after his leadoff walk. They added the final run in the seventh inning with Luisangel Acuña's sacrifice fly scoring Andrew Benintendi.
At the plate, Garcia was 2-for-4 with a walk, while Witt Jr was 2-for-5 with a double. Lane Thomas recorded the only other hit of the game. Lugo on the mound fell to 1-1 on the season, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, walking four and striking out four.
Kansas City and Chicago continue their series tomorrow. Kris Bubic (1-1, 4.09 ERA, 12K's) takes the mound for the Royals against Davis Martin (2-0, 2.45 ERA, 12K's) for the White Sox. First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame will air at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).
