Carl “Al” Alfred Modlin Sr., 79, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Jackson, Missouri. He was born September 28, 1946, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Clarence and Rita Modlin. Al attended Christian Brothers High School and graduated from Central High School. He was the owner and operator of Modlin-Hicks Construction Company.
Al enjoyed spending time on the golf course and was an avid sports fan. He rarely missed a game, following football, golf, curling, tennis, and even horse racing. He was a devoted viewer of Jeopardy and a Trump enthusiast. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He valued his friendships formed at Moila and the Eagles, along with supporting the National Rifle Association. He was of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Alfred Modlin Jr.; his parents; and his sister-in-law, Terri Modlin. Survivors include his daughters: Stefanie (Chris) Tucker of Clinton, KY, Cynthia (Mark) Brown of Hardy, AR, and Monica Thomas of Jackson, MO. Grandchildren: Chy Caples; Ryleigh, Ayverie, and Lennon of St. Joseph, MO, Brianna Modlin (Travis); Kiara and Brilynn Beaver of St. Joseph, MO, Savanna (Jay) and Elise Roth of Murray; KY, Audrey and Whitley Tucker of Clinton; KY, Miranda (Dan) Clayton; Emmett, Vera, and Ellis Kerckhoff of Affton, MO, Margo (Mitch) and Mia Jansen of Barling, AR, Allison (John) Cole; Iyla and Emilie Jones of Oak Ridge, MO, Anna (Beau); Adler, Judah and Milton Boeye of Red Oak, IA, Wyatt (Emma Harrison); Charlie Aufdenberg of Harlan, IA, Brielle (Cade); Gracelyn and Jayce Miller of Altoona, IA and Waverley Brown of Coin, IA.
He is also survived by his siblings: Frank (Susie) Modlin, Mary (Jerry) Lester, Martin G. (Robyn) Modlin, Rita (Phil) White, Joe (Sue) Modlin, John (Jeanne) Modlin, Mike (Joelle) Modlin and Pat Modlin.
