Thomas A. Powers, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025.
He was born January 12, 1945 in Maryville, Missouri, to Austin and Daisy (Houston) Powers.
Thomas married Brenda Painter on February 11, 1971. She survives of the home.
He proudly served his country as a cook in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1983. After retiring from active duty, he worked in the U.S. Army Commissary for 25 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 6760, where he served as post commander in 1986-87.
In earlier years, he and Brenda loved to go square dancing at the Joyce Raye Patterson Center with his parents. Later on, he enjoyed getting out and about in town, especially with the grandkids, and enjoying time in his favorite chair with his beloved dog Merlin curled up in his lap.
Most of all, Thomas was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who was considered a dad by many of his children’s friends as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Samuel W. Herndon III, Bill Herndon, and James Wesley Power.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Brenda; children, Thomas Powers II, Austina Hernandez (Oscar), and James Powers; bonus son, Dennis Herrick, Jr.; grandchildren, Rico Powers, Carmen Triminario, and Ethan Hernandez; great-granddaughter, Leilani Hernandez; other extended family and friends.
