Joyce Eileen Helsel, 89, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was born February 8, 1936 in Hastings, NE, daughter of Gertrude and Carl Hlavaty. She graduated from high school in Hastings, NE. She married Roger "Bud" Helsel on October 11, 1954. Joyce retired from Methodist Hospital as a CNA. She was a long time member of Journey Baptist Church. Joyce enjoyed traveling with her husband and more recently watching soap operas and playing computer games. Joyce was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed taking care of her family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roger "Bud" Helsel Sr, brother, Richard Hlavaty, and son, Roger "Buddy" Lee Helsel Jr. Survivors include daughter, Kathy (Ron) Martin of St. Joseph, son, Dean (Amy) Helsel of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Kiefer Helsel, Jay (Jennifer) Martin, Jenna Kepner, Jeremy (Kristen) Martin, Great-Grandchildren, Austin (Destiny), Trinity, Jax, Treyton, & Jude,and 2 Great-Great Grandsons, Daxton and Kashton.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Rupp Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pastor Adam Woodrum, officiating. The Interment will be follow services at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Journey Baptist Church.
