Gladys Corrine Wedekind was born on January 24, 1927 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. She was the youngest of five children born to Charles W. and Rosie (Baker) Hartmann.
She married William K. "Bill" Wedekind in Gordonville, Missouri on November 6, 1949. They were happily married for more than 50 years until Bill's passing in 2003. Their marriage was a true testimony to commitment, love, and communication.
In the late 1960's Gladys and Bill moved to Oregon, Missouri where Bill built Gladys their "dream home". She worked as a teacher's aide at the South Holt Elementary School and proved to be an exceptional mother and member of her community.
She was devout in her Christian faith and an active member of the Oregon United Methodist Church. She loved being a member of her sorority group Adelpha Club and the UMW. She participated in many community events yearly and was known for her numerous pies made for the Kiwanis' Fall Festival booth.
Gladys enjoyed gardening, sewing, and especially baking. Each fall Gladys and Bill made their phenomenal apple cider that they produced from their home orchard, pressing hundreds of gallons each year. Gladys followed the Chiefs and Royals religiously as a dedicated (and sometimes loud) fan. Gladys was extremely generous in her donations, especially to children of third world countries and Veteran organizations.
Gladys passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023 in Savannah, Missouri at the age of 96.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Colista Thoma, Hadley Hartmann, James Hartmann, and Stella Cook; and daughter, Jane Ann Morrill.
