HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After insisting at its last meeting that the Kansas State Fair would go on as scheduled, the Kansas State Fair Board will meet on Monday to reconsider holding this year's event.

GM Robin Jennison said Thursday morning that factors outside of their control are pushing the decision to potentially cancel the event for the first time in 107 years.

On June 30, Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Dr. Lee Norman advised the State Fair Board that they should cancel this year's fair.

"If I were only talking about it from a public health perspective, it would be best to not have the State Fair," Norman said. "There's no question, it will engender illness." Norman doesn't think fairgoers will wear masks.
