President Trump has signed a proclamation temporarily removing tariffs on additional imported lean beef, despite strong opposition from U.S. cattle organizations. The plan allows 300,000 metric tons of lean beef trimmings to enter the United States tariff-free for 90 days. Trump says participating countries would sell the beef at prices 25 percent below current market levels, with the goal of lowering ground beef prices for consumers. The American Farm Bureau Federation, Livestock Marketing Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and United States Cattlemen’s Association are pushing back.
