He was born November 2, 1958 in St. Joseph to Gilbert E. Kirby, Sr. and Priscilla (Cruse) Kirby.
Gilbert enjoyed sports and music.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his children, Leonard, Tasha and Tisha Kirby; and siblings, Dennis Kirby, Vicki Kelly, Ginger Kirby, and Dianna Kirby.
