Teri Lynn May 1949 - 2024

Teri Lynn May, 75, of Smithville, MO passed away April 8, 2024.

She was born on March 3, 1949, to Leslie Robert and Doris F. (Dean) Anderson in Long Beach, California. Growing up in a Navy family, she lived in several areas including Honolulu, HI, Bethesda, MD and Ridgecrest, CA. Teri attended high school in Ridgecrest, CA.

On July 29, 1967, she was united in marriage to Peter Paul May, III at the All Faith Chapel on China Lake Naval Station. After their marriage they lived in Gladstone, MO, Diamond Bar, CA, and Carlsbad, CA. In 1993, Pete and Teri established their family home in Smithville, MO. 

Teri worked in the family business as an office manager, retiring in 1999. After her retirement, she volunteered for local animal rescue organizations and she fostered numerous dogs. Teri took a lot of pride in her family, house and dogs. She worked hard to be a central safe place for everyone. Teri’s joys in life were people, pets and plants. 

She won several dog shows with her award winning Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs. Teri was an avid genealogist and documented the family’s history. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, crafts, her horses and most of all being with her family. 

Teri was preceded in death by her parents Les and Doris Anderson and sister-in-law Diane Simpson.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pete May; her children Peter P. (Kerryn) May IV, Mary (Mary Leahy) May and Paula Mercer; grandchildren Jasmine Mercer, Megan Mercer, Thomas Mercer, Madilynn May, and Elijah May; sister Carol Apt and Patti (Bill) Tongate; sisters-in-law Barbara (Jim) McCroskie, Jan (Bob) Turner, and Laurie Allen; brother-in-law John May; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.   

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13th at Vineyard Church, 12300 Arrowhead Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64165

 Burial: Community of Smithville Memorial Cemetery, Smithville, MO.
