Lloyd Lynn Evans (Aug 6, 1949- Nov 25, 2025) passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones Tuesday November 25, 2025, at the age of 76.
Lloyd was born August 6, 1949 to Leroy and Ethel (Lowrey) Evans in Dawn, MO. He was a graduate of Southwest High School located in Dawn. He worked numerous jobs in his youth and was an avid baseball player. He moved to St. Joseph, MO after high school and worked at St Joseph Auto Parts, Jack Horner Construction Supply, Fosters Construction Supply, Wyeth Hardware, and finally Blish-Mize Hardware in Atchison, KS until he retired.
Lloyd lived a life devoted to the pursuit of learning, creativity and serving. Ask almost anyone who spent time with him, and they will tell you he loved to swap stories and to weave a good yarn or speak on history and debate the pros or cons of a subject. He was passionate about reading and taught his family by example, that learning was important throughout their life. He collected stamps, visited cemeteries to locate headstones of historical figures, rock hunted, attended auctions, chased trains, played baseball/softball, umpired, and was proud to point out that he had driven every single road in Wabaunsee County, KS. He loved maps and often would set out on weekend road trips, occasionally with his son Michael, either to learn about history, photograph architecture, landscapes, the wildlife of an area, or just to find an obscure landmark in a field and be home before work on Monday. He loved woodworking and building things especially for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lloyd was dedicated to helping others in any way he was able to help. He served on the Board of Directors for the Patee House Museum, serving as President for a time, and was a member of the St Joseph Historical Society.
After retirement it was not uncommon to find him and Janet whiling away the hours sitting on the deck with their Audubon Society book watching birds and feeding the ever increasing population of squirrels that would visit them.
Lloyd was devoted to his family, though in a quiet way. He loved his family fiercely and protected anyone who needed protection, but allowed folks to live their own lives and not burden them with expectations or comments on what they should believe or how they should behave.
He is survived by his loving companion Janet Duke, his son Michael (Melinda) Evans, his daughter Gina (John) Mularoni, and his grandchildren: Jessica (Zach) Beach, Lacey Singleton, Matthew (Miranda) Mularoni, Courtney (Travis) Williams, Kathryn (Jacob) Mills, Sarah Evans, Jake (Makayla) Mularoni, Michael Lloyd Evans and Nathan Phillips, 15 great grandchildren, sisters Shirley, Lois, Nadine, brother Robert and several nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris, and stepson Bill Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the Patee House Museum.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for January 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM at The Ruby Theatre.
