Ruth Young 1933-2025

Ruth Young, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

She was born August 7, 1933 in Dora, Missouri to Fred and Lola (Shipley) Ingram.

Ruth married James Maxwell Young in January 1951. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2015.

Ruth enjoyed traveling. She and Jim spent much of the summer months at Lake of the Ozarks, where they owned property. Each summer they would travel for three weeks visiting National Parks, monuments, places of interest, and Jim’s brother, John Young, in Long Beach, California. They also visited Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary. Ruth and eight of her high school friends took trips together every summer. They took twenty-two trips together traveling to favorite sites including Canada and Hawaii. She also traveled with her church group to Venezuela.

In addition to traveling, Ruth collected antiques and jewelry. She also was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Association.

Ruth had many close and devoted friends whom she loved dearly.

She loved working with two of her favorite doctors, Dr. Dan Smith and Dr. Doug Stokes of the St. Joseph Orthopedic Clinic.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Maxwell Young; her adored daughter, Rene Roth; her parents, Fred and Lola Ingram; sisters, Jean (Lloyd) Thompson and Bernadine (Kenneth) Thompson; and son-in-law, Thomas Nelson.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Taira Nelson; grandchildren, Blake Roth (Julie), who was extremely attentive and helpful, and Taira Roth; great-grandchildren, Alaina, George, Harper, and Fynn Roth; and James Roth; and nieces, Brenda Finnegan (Bill), Marilyn McQuinn (Dale), Jennifer Ward (Gary), and Karen Yoakum (Bill). Her three kitties, Tucker, Cowboy, and Blueberry brought her much joy.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 4:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Whispering Pines Cremation Garden at St. Joseph Memorial Park. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
