Identities of victims in St. Joseph train-car collision released

St. Joseph police have released the identifications of the person killed and the person seriously injured in Saturday’s vehicle-train crash.

Police say 79-year-old Jerry Murphy of St. Joseph died when his minivan failed to clear the railroad tracks near Waterworks Road about a mile north of the St. Jo Frontier Casino late Saturday afternoon.

Seriously injured in the wreck was 79-year-old Patricia Murphy, a passenger in the van.

The impact threw Murphy from the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Patricia Murphy had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders.
