Frances Lou Whitmore, 92, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. Frances was born August 26th, 1932 in Helena, MO to Bertha Thelma (Arnold) and Harry Lewis Landis Van Meter.
On October 14th, 1950, she married Francis Wayne Whitmore in King City, MO. They had three children, Gary Wayne Whitmore and Sherry Thelma Martin, who were twins. Nine years later they had a son born, Michael Allen Whitmore.
Frank & Frances moved their family to St. Joseph from Cosby, MO in the late 50s residing in St. Joseph the rest of their lives. Frances managed Dot’s Restaurant in St. Joseph and various other jobs thru her life. Her passion was developed in 1990 when she started her own business operating it from her home until she no longer could in 2021. She was a certified Natural Health Professional and distributor for Nature’s Sunshine products. Learning all she could while improving people’s health, she extended her business with Healers Who Share in 2008.
She was a wonderful wife, mom, sister, aunt and gr/grandmother. She made many friends along the way with her care and compassion for them. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, togetherness and love that will be felt for generations to come. She cherished each relationship she had and we were lucky to have known her. She will be greatly missed.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Sherry and son, Gary. Also, her brother Edward Van Meter, Sandy Diego, CA and sister, Betty Jean (BJ) Myers, St. Joseph. She is survived by her son, Michael Allen Whitmore (Connie), Agency, MO Michael made it possible for her to live at home her final years of her life along with help from her caregiver, Pam Ringot.
Other survivors include her seven grandchildren Chris Whitmore (Michelle), Farrah Beardslee (Doug) Brooke Oehring (Eddy), Ty Whitmore (Rachelle), Andrew Whitmore (Mercedes), Alex Whitmore (Kaitlin) and Aryn Sampson (Mitchell). There are 15 great-grandchildren! She is also survived by a few nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23 at Roberson Funeral Home, King City, MO. Burial will follow in Union Star Cemetery, Union Star, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
