The No. 3 -ranked Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team (13-1) extended its win streak to eight games with an 84-74 victory over the Missouri Southern Lions Tuesday in Joplin.
It also extends' the Bearcats' nation-leading road winning streak to 15 games.
The contest featured a shootout between a pair of the MIAA's top scorers in Northwest's Ryan Hawkins and Missouri Southern's Cam Martin. The duo did not disappoint as Hawkins poured in a game-high 33, while Martin carried the Lions' load with 30 points.
Lafayette St. Joseph alum Diego Bernard did his usual stat staffing with 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and a steal.
Northwest shot 29-of-58 (50%) from the field, while Missouri Southern shot 28-of-52 (53.8%) for the game.
Women's game
The Bearcats took down Missouri Southern in dominating fashion, 63-46, Tuesday. It marks the first win in Joplin for the Bearcat women since March 5, 2013.
Jaelyn Haggard led the Bearcats off the bench with 18 points while Molly Hartnett chipped in 16 points with a team-high 9 rebounds. Mia Stillman also tied her career-high with 11 points.
Northwest will be back action again Saturday at home against Missouri Western. The women's game is at 1:30, with the men to follow at 3:30. Both games will be carried on KFEQ Radio (680 AM, 95.3 FM).
