Rodney Lane Derr was born January 12th, 1953 to Rodger William and Irene Louise (Metcalf) Derr of Oregon, MO.
Rodney farmed with his dad and brother before taking a job as an over-the-road owner/operator with a trucking company. After spending a few years in Aurora, Colorado he moved back home to Oregon where he worked as a dispatcher and jailer for the Holt County Sheriff's department. Rodney also went to college after he was back and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Missouri Western University.
Rodney enjoyed having breakfast and lunch at local restaurants, talking guns, telling jokes, and connecting with friends. Although he dealt with some physical challenges, he embraced life and had an infectious smile. Rodney was a member of the First Christian Church in Oregon and his faith never wavered.
Rodney passed away on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025 at Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Mo.
He was proceeded in death by his parents.
Rodney is survived by his son, Chad Derr (Abby); daughter, Heather Rhodes (Michael); grandchildren, Jaden Derr, Emma Derr, Rowen Derr, Liam Derr, Jade Clayton, Malik Whitmire, and MaKayla Whitmire; great grandchildren, Bentley Derr, Kennedy Clayton, Jordan Clayton Jr, Leo Clayton, and Leilani Gullick; siblings, Danny Derr (Shirley) and Georgi Lane (Leland); and numerous nieces and nephews.
As per Rodney's wishes, no services are planned. Memorials may be directed to the Mound City Booster Club.
