Elbert Aytch Ballard, 85, of Saint Joseph, MO, passed away on December 22, 2023. He was born on July 19, 1938, in Camden Point, MO.Elbert had a remarkable career in the trucking industry, spanning 52 years as an over the road driver. During his career, he logged over a million miles, traversing all 50 states without a single accident or ticket.
Elbert was known for his family-oriented nature and his loyalty to those he loved. He had an outgoing and personable personality, and he had a way of connecting with everyone he met.
Outside of his career Elbert enjoyed fishing, finding solace and joy in the peacefulness of the water. He found great pleasure in casting a line and waiting for the perfect bite. He was also a fan of westerns and history.Elbert is survived by the love of his life Marilyn, his loving wife of 47 years, and his children Michael (Sheril) Ballard, Smithville, MO., Janet Bennett, Sedalia, MO., Shawn Stewart, Saint Joseph, MO., and Darla (David) Reynolds, Faucett, MO. He is also survived by his brothers Tommy (Ann) Ballard, Kearney, MO., Everett Ballard, Dearborn, MO., Dwight (Doris) Ballard, Dearborn, MO., his sisters Vernetta Smith, Leawood, KS., and Joyce (Larry) Veuleman, Lincoln, MO. Elbert leaves behind a legacy of five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
Elbert was preceded in death by his father William Alvin Ballard, mother Verneta Ruth Ballard, brothers William Everett Ballard, David Ballard, Richard Ballard and sisters Cindy Pointer, and Opal Louise Boone.Elbert Aytch Ballard’s legacy lives on through his dedicated years in the trucking industry, his love for his family, and his cherished memories spent fishing. He will forever be rem embered as a kind-hearted and hardworking individual who had a positive impact on those around him.
