A local thrift store serving people in need is hosting its 16th annual Back-2-School event next Saturday to give students a chance to get the supplies they need to be ready for school
On Saturday, July 25th, Grace House will give school-age children in kindergarten through college a chance to receive a backpack filled with school supplies and choose a new outfit for their first day of school, all free of charge. Located at 2638 Lafayette St., Grace House, a nonprofit organization, offers clothing and household items for people who can’t afford them. Currently, the shop is filling up with school supplies.
The first-come, first-served event will be held from 6am to 3pm on July 25th at the shop. Last year, the nonprofit gave out 1,310 backpacks filled with school supplies. Two rooms are currently being filled with backpacks of all kinds, colors and designs. One is tailored toward girls and another toward boys, but children can choose whichever backpack they want.
The store accepts donations of gently used items. It is open from 5:30am to 3:30pm Tuesdays and from 5:30 to 9:30am Thursdays and Saturdays.
