Missouri Western comes back but falls in overtime to Washburn

Despite efforts to erase a double digit deficit, the Missouri Western Griffons fell in overtime to the Washburn Ichabods 38-31 at Spratt Memorial Stadium.

Down 31-24 with just under five minutes left in regulation Sophomore quarterback Reagan Jones led Missouri Western 60 yards down the field where he found Junior wide receiver Cooper Burton for a 13 yard touchdown. Washburn would run off the last seconds of the clock to force overtime.

The Griffons would win the toss in overtime and opt to defend, but it only took  one play for Washburn's Taylon Peters to run 25 yards untouched to score.  Missouri Western struggled to move the ball in the overtime period but did convert a critical third down, before being unable to convert a fourth and seven to end the game.

Jones passed for 246 yards on the day going 20 of 34 through the air and setting a new career high in touchdowns with three.  Jones also added 51 yards on the ground.  Junior running back Jared Scott led the Griffons in carries, rushing 20 times for 65 yards, while Sophomore running back Jonas Bennett rushed just eight times for 76 yards and a touchdown.
