A veteran Savannah police officer has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation into the death of Savannah K-9 Horus continues.

Lieutenant Daniel Zeigler, Horus' handler, has been suspended with pay while the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigates the circumstances surrounding the death of the police dog last week.

Some Savannah residents gathered for a candlelight vigil Sunday to honor K-9 Horus and have complained that Savannah officials buried Horus without honors.

The Savannah Police Department has only acknowledged that K-9 Horus died after an overnight shift without giving any specifics about the cause of death.
