Kan. man dies after pickup strikes tree, rolls into creek

RILEY COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 6:30p.m. Thursday in Riley County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by Shane M.  Lingenfelter, 44, Manhattan, was westbound on Interstate 70 just west of Tallgrass Road thirteen miles southeast of Manhattan.

The driver steered onto the north shoulder and struck a tree. The pickup rolled, struck a second tree and rolled into a creek. The pickup came to rest on the driver's side in the creek.

Lingenfelter was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
