A man has been arrested, suspected of being involved in a shooting in St. Joseph that left the victim in critical condition.
St. Joseph police report a 30-year-old St. Joseph resident was arrested after a high-speed chase in which shots were fired at the pursuing Missouri State Highway Patrol car. A passenger in the fleeing vehicle, a 19-year-old woman, is accused of shooting at the patrol car multiple times, striking the vehicle, but not hitting the trooper.
The victim, described as a St. Joseph resident in his 30s, is in critical condition.
Police say a man was shot and seriously wounded Wednesday afternoon around three o’clock at 113 North 17th Street. The victim went to the hospital by private vehicle.
A few hours later, a pursuit began on Highway 36, then switch to I-29, fleeing south on the interstate. The highway patrol car began pursuit and quickly was joined by officers from the St. Joseph Police Department, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department, and the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. The chase moved to blacktop highways, driving through Dearborn until it ended on EE Highway. The man and woman surrendered when surrounded by officers around six o'clock.
