Lawrence "Stoney" Lee Derry Jr. 71, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023. He was born December 29, 1951 in St. Joseph, and was the son of the late Betty & Lawrence Derry Sr.
He attended Benton High School, and proudly served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam era. We thank you for your service, Larry! A poet said “Going to the mountains is going home,” and if you knew Stoney, you know that he was more comfortable in the woods or at the river than he was in a room with four walls and a ceiling.
It was in the wilderness where Stoney felt his greatest peace. He was a skilled outdoorsman, who loved to arrowhead hunt, fish, trap, and hunt.
Stoney was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Bobbie Jo Arnold.
He is survived by twelve siblings: Linda Vejar, Luis (Peggy) Derry, Leslie Lynn (Melvin) Pummell, Lorie Auxier, Lucas Derry, Bill (Nancy) Derry, Kevin Derry, Angela (Mike) Butram, Lisa Derry (Terry Horr), Bernie Derry, Ruby Faulk Puri, and Betsy Faulk, stepfather, Ray (Shirley) Faulk and stepmother, Alice Chavez Derry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Thursday August 10, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home.
