The U.S. Department of Agriculture is making eight billion dollars available in one-time assistance payments to help farmers deal with market disruptions and rising production costs. The new Harvest Fuel Relief program will provide payments based on estimated losses during the 2026 crop year. USDA says payment calculations will consider planted acreage, production expenses, and government projections for crop yields and prices.

Payment rates for major commodities are expected to be announced in November, with details for additional eligible commodities coming later. Producers will not be required to carry crop insurance to qualify. The Farm Service Agency will administer the program using Commodity Credit Corporation authority. Farmers are encouraged to establish a Login.gov account before applications open, allowing them to access prefilled application forms.
