Missouri American Water hosted a ribbon-cutting for a refurbished elevated storage tank Monday afternoon on Karnes Road that can be seen along I-29.
The original Karnes Tank was constructed in 1970,and held 750,000 gallons of water. The water tower has now been repainted Griffon gold, with MoWest displayed on the west facing side. The storage tanks are a critical component of the water system as they maintain water pressure, provide storage to meet customer demands and ensure service reliability during emergencies.
“Adding Missouri Western’s branding to the tank is a meaningful way to demonstrate our support for the university and help foster community pride,” Senior manager of Northwest Operations John Hontz told reporters during the event. “A recent tank inspection identified maintenance needs, which presented an opportunity to complete the painting as part of the same project.”
