Barbara A. (Brooks) King, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026.
She was born January 3, 1947 in St. Joseph to Jack and M. Elaine (Smith) Brooks. Barbara was a 1965 graduate of Lafayette High School.
On October 14, 1966, Barbara married Kenneth R. “Kenny” King. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2019.
Barbara worked at KFEQ radio station from 1965 to 1968 before raising her family.
She was a member of the Young Democrats Club and the Humane Society, campaigned for True Davis, served as treasurer for all class reunions for Lafayette High School Class of 1965, and volunteered for the March of Dimes.
Barbara loved to cook and bake for her family, and they enjoyed just about everything she made. She also enjoyed game nights with family and friends. Whenever she walked into a room, she would leave a presence, making a lasting impression on her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Mosaic for their care of Barbara, especially Kayla, Jaden and Michael.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Kenny; her parents; and son, Jack King.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Brooke King (Wyatt Barnett); other extended family; special friends who were like family, Russell Vest (Sharon), Deanna Davis (Curt Kincaid), and Lesa Wright; and her beloved dog, Jocey.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 8, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 7, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.
