With heavy heart we share that our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Eugene Hill, passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2024, at the age of 88 on the farm that he loved. Gene was born on a farm in Platte County, MO to James William and Pearl Francis (Ashpaugh) Hill in 1935 and was the 9th of 14 children. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings except Ed, who lives in St. Joseph, MO. Gene married the love of his life, Marie Hart, on August 10th, 1956, and they were married for 67 years. They moved to their farm near Easton, KS in 1961 where they raised their four children, of which he was extremely proud. Gene worked at Gould National Battery for 43 years, retiring in 1997 and then focused on the things he truly loved: family, farming, outdoor activities and reading.
Gene was a doting grandfather and great grandfather and spent many hours playing and entertaining them with his shenanigans. He was a proud tobacco farmer and was named an Outstanding Tobacco Farmer by the Missouri Council for Burley Tobacco for 1999-2000. All those who met Gene would tell you that he was not only a hardworking man, but a great storyteller as well. He was an avid bird hunter, coon hunter, and hand fisherman, although the greatest love of his outdoor life was morel mushroom hunting. Gene was a true book lover with a special interest in westerns and military history. He was liked and respected by all who knew him, and he never met a stranger. Gene is survived by his wife Marie and his four children; Rick Hill (Theresa); Marina (Paul) Cooley; Tony Hill (Susan) and Tammy Hill and his nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Gene will be 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 26, 2024, at Vaughn Funeral Home, Weston, MO with funeral services immediately following. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Weston, MO.
