Edward Eugene “Eddie” Young was born in Mound City on February 19, 1932. He was the oldest of five sons born to Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Christian) Young.
Eddie served overseas in the United States Navy during the Korean War. During his service years he married Verna Rebel in Mound City on April 5, 1953. They celebrated their 70th anniversary last year.
Following Eddie’s service, the Youngs returned to Holt County where Eddie farmed. They became parents of four children.
Eddie passed away at Tiffany Heights in Mound City on Monday, February 26, 2024.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Byron Young and Kenneth Young; and great-granddaughter, Sadie Young.
He is survived by his wife, Verna, of Mound City; children, Byron (Jan) Young of Aledo, TX, Steve (Kristy) Young of Kingsville, MO, Roger (Michele) Young of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Amy Young of Mound City; brothers, Richard Young of Springhill, IA, and Robert Young of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Brook (Steve) Gomba, Mark (Whitney) Young, Mary (Alan) Findley, Jason Rogers, Jared (Rochelle) Rogers, Kaleb (Samantha) Young, Kevin (Brittney) Young, Jacob (Kristen) Rogers, Ashley (Matt) Vann, and Sara (Braden) Voss.
Funeral services: Saturday, March 2, 2024, 10:30 a.m., River of Hope Fellowship. Family visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, River of Hope Fellowship. Interment with military rites: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Memorial donations may be made to River of Hope Fellowship.
