Tyrus Raymond Kurth 1945 - 2024

Tyrus R. “Tykie” Kurth, Jr., 79, formerly of Atchison, KS died Sat. July 13th, 2024, at the Medicalodge of Leavenworth, KS.

Visitation with the family will be held 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Cremation services will follow, and burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in the Doniphan Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.Ty was born on Jan. 18, 1945, in Atchison, KS the son of Tyrus R. Kurth, Sr and Helen (Cairo) Wolters.

He graduated from Atchison High School in 1963. Ty served in the United States Army for 3 ½ years, including in South Vietnam for 13 months, and as first cook for the 1st Inf. Division from 1965-1966. He worked as a truck driver for Peeler Oil Company, in Kansas City, MO. He later worked as a sergeant in charge of nighttime security at Iatan Power Plant, until bad health forced his retirement in 1995.

Ty was a member of the American Legion Post # 6, and the VFW Post # 1175 both of Atchison, KS and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing for catfish and playing cards with family and friends.

He was married to Annette C. Peck on March 20, 2015. She survives at home in Leavenworth. KS. Additional survivors include a brother John Wolters, Atchison KS, a sister Janace Kurth, St. Joseph, MO, a granddaughter Gina Kurth, and great granddaughter Alannah Cairo and several nieces and nephews. His parents, daughter Tegan Hipsher, and brother Pat Wolters preceded him in death.
