Leonard N. Filippi 1943 - 2023

Leonard N. Filippi, 79, passed away on Friday, June 30, at home. Leonard was born on August 5, 1943, in Seattle, Washington, the son of Hugo J. and Hulda Filippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

On April 8, 1967, he married Ellen Miller at the Jarblo Methodist Church in Jarblo, Ks. He is survived by Ellen, daughter Annette Filippi (Jeff Jackson) Platte City, Mo., son Brett Filippi in Leavenworth, Ks. & brother Bruce (Jeanette) Filippi in Berrington, Ks. Leonard has 3 nephews, 3 nieces, 3 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 1 great great niece & 1 great great nephew.

Leonard accompanied his Army service parents on their tours to Yokohoma, Japan; Ft Dix, N.J.; Frankfurt, Germany; Ft Riley, Ks, & Ft Leavenworth, Ks. He graduated from Lansing Rural High School in 1961.

He began his career with Watson Wilson Transportation before entering the Army in 1964. He was assigned to 5th Missile Batallion a guest of the Navy at Naval Air Station, Olathe, Ks. While assigned to the NAS, he also worked part time for Hall Truck Line in Olathe.

After leaving the Service in 1967 and marrying Ellen, they set up temporary housekeeping in Kansas City, Ks., until moving back to Lansing, Ks.  His career in Transportation led him to work for Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, Desoto, Ks.; Marley Cooling Tower Co., Olathe, Ks.; Western Auto Supply Co., Kansas City, Mo.; Dairy Farmers of America, Inc., Kansas City, Mo.; and Organized Living, Lenexa, Ks., where he  took early retirement. He voluntered in the Leavenworth School System  at Muncie Elementary & Henry Leavenworth Elementary. He later volunteered at the office of Dr. Peter Cristiano in Lansing.

At Leonard's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
