Bill L. Green, age 87, of Effingham, KS, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care, with his wife by his side.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Cormode as officiant. He will be laid to rest in Monrovia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Monrovia Cemetery Maintenance Fund or American Heart Association or American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
Bill was born on March 20, 1936, in Atchison, KS, to Charlie and Clara (Walker) Green, the fourth of eight sons. He was baptized at the Farmington Christian Church on July 30, 1990, by Rev. Don Jewett. He attended public schools in Atchison before working in the construction industry helping build bridges and houses in his early life. He was employed at Lincoln Grain and Midwest Solvents, now MGPI, before his retirement. Being retired was not as fun as Bill thought, so he went to work for Berger Leather Products for four years and then Fargo Assembly for three years.
Bill’s enjoyment in life was working with his cattle until his health declined. He listened to bluegrass gospel and bluegrass country music and watched Joel Osteen on tv on Sunday mornings. His greatest aspect of life although was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He married Jerline Duggan on May 25, 1972, in Atchison, KS, and they enjoyed over fifty-one years of marriage together. She survives of their home in Effingham, KS; they have two sons, Eddie Green (Charle) of Beloit, KS, and David Green (Bobbie) of Atchison, KS; six grandchildren, Michael Burge (Cassie Strathman) of St. Joseph, MO, Madilyn Green and Mason Green of Atchison, KS, Marshall, Kasey and Brady Green of Beloit, KS; one great granddaughter, Stella Burge of St. Joseph, MO; three sisters-in-law, Sandy Green of Atchison, KS, Helen Green of Tracy, CA, and Sherry Green; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Denise Green; and brothers, James Green, Adolph Green (Barb), Charles Green (Regenna), Ben Green, Andrew Green, Gene Green and Jimmy Green.
