Missouri American Water issues precautionary boil advisory, 9200 customers affected

Officials with Missouri American Water have issued a precautionary boil advisory in St. Joseph after a contractor hit a water main.

The advisory affects nearly 92-hundred customers in the St. Joseph area. Calls are going out to customers that signed up for notifications from Missouri American Water. A map of the area affected can be found online.

The boil advisory is strictly precautionary. Customers in the affected area should bring water to a running boil for three to five minutes before consuming.

The advisory will be in effect for up to 48 hours until repairs are complete.

Some buildings within the St. Joseph School District are in the area affected.  Officials with the district say students in the affected schools will have water bottles on hand. 

The following schools are impacted over the next 48 hours: 

Hosea Elementary

Carden Park Elementary

Keatley Center

Bode Middle School

Truman Middle School
