National Drug Take Back Day is tomorrow [SAT] and local law enforcement encourage the St. Joseph community to participate.

Buchanan County Drug Strike Force Captain Shawn Collie says they have a Drug Take Back Day twice a year.

“Members of the community can bring any type of prescription pills or medications that are not being used within the residence out to East Hills Mall, we’re set up on the east side by the old Sears entrance,” Collie tells St. Joseph Post.

The Buchanan County sheriff's office, St. Joseph Police Department, and St. Joseph Youth Alliance teamed up to have this drop-off location.

Collie says the medications are put in secure location until they can be properly taken care of.

“Our entire goal is to be able to get those prescription pills or pills off the streets, out of the medicine cabinets and we provide a safe and effective way for those to be dropped off and then packaged up,” says Collie. “We then turn everything over to DEA who disposes of them.”

Collie says doing this helps make the community a better place.

“That’s a huge asset to the community to be able to get rid of prescription drugs.”
