Darryl Dean McDermott, 83 years old, and a resident of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
Darryl was the son of Paul and Ruby McDermott. He spent his youth and attended schools in Idaho and Washington. He lived in many places during his lifetime – Boston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis and Kansas City. He moved to St. Joseph when he retired. He and his partner loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and over 30 foreign countries. Darryl was an avid reader who also loved creative writing and his cherished pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Dennis P. McDermott, and his partner of 56 years, Albert G. Bingham. He is survived by a niece and nephew, Randi McDermott and Ryan McDermott, and their families, all of Idaho, and a very sweet cat named Toot.
Darryl was blessed with a sharp wit and was exceedingly kind, warm and generous. He quietly lived an extraordinary life and held no resentment or regrets. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
A special thanks to the amazing staff at Mosaic Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
Darryl wished to be cremated, co-mingled with his partner and scattered at a later date. He requested no visitation or service.
Natural Farewell under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
