Youvee “Bud” Babcock, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025.

He was born December 7, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to Youvee Babcock, Sr. and Laura (Schlonga) Babcock. Bud grew up in St. Joseph, and graduated from Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph.

After high school, Bud served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Bud married Kathleen Burns on New Year’s Eve 1966. They celebrated more than 58 years together before his passing.

He was a lineman for St. Joseph Light & Power for many years while also owning/operating Babcock Appliance on Messanie Street. Later he was in system operations for Kansas City Light & Power before retirement.

An ornery guy who enjoyed giving others a good-natured hard time, Bud enjoyed the camaraderie and adventure of fishing trips to Canada and Florida.

Bud was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and loved his dog as well. He leaves a legacy of the importance of hard work and enjoying life along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Allie and Maurice Babcock.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; children, Diane Jacobs and Christopher Babcock (Tobi Pendleton); grandchildren, Andrew (Gina), Chelsee, Abby, and Adee; great-granddaughters, Addilyn and Elliana; brother, Wayne Babcock (Denise); nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.
