Clarnell B. (Nelson) Morriss, 95, Kansas City, died Monday, October 16, 2023.
Clarnell was born February 23, 1928, to Clarence R. Nelson and Salena Torrance Nelson in Guilford, MO.
She married Virgil R. Morriss in December 1947. He preceded her in death in September 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Blanche Knudson Nelson; Brothers Cleo Nelson and Melvin Nelson; Sisters Maxine Nelson Lewis, Juanita Nelson Peters, Donna Nelson Adams, and Lavona Nelson Munns; Son Vincent Raymond Morriss; Grandsons James Aaron Rogers, Sherman Aaron Rogers, and Brian Scott Rogers; and her Daughter-in-law Vicki Gard Morriss.
Mrs. Morriss is survived by her children, Virgil R. Morriss (Judith), Rigby, Idaho; Bernita Morriss Rogers, Kansas City, MO; Jonell Morriss Barlow (Jim) Wathena, KS; Terry Morriss (Lourdes), Lexington, MO/and Panama. Brother Farrell Nelson (Sharon), St. Joseph, MO. Sisters: Ermel Nelson Johnson, Savannah, MO, and Marjorie Nelson Pinion, St. Joseph, MO. Grandchildren: Willy Morriss, Idaho Falls, ID; Steven Morriss (Becky) Rigby, ID; Teralyn Morriss, Junction City, KS; Patrick Morriss (Betty) Bedford, IA; and Stacey Rogers, Kansas City, MO. Great-Grandchildren Anthony, Katie (Kane), Aubree (Nick), Epiphany, Dallas; and Traxton.
Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law Delmar Morriss, Garden City, MO; and, Erwin Morriss, Waynesville, MO.
Mrs. Morriss was a 1945 graduate of Guilford High School. She worked as a homemaker and many years at Pioneer Cap Factory in Stanberry, MO, until it closed. She then worked at Parkdale Nursing Home Laundry in Maryville, MO and cooked at Barnard Restaurant. Following her husband’s death she moved to Kansas City and worked well into her 80s as assistant manager at her apartment complex.
Clarnell was a member of the Guilford Community of Christ Church and a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary and DAV.
Services for Mrs. Morriss will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, Savannah, MO. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral chapel prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Graves Cemetery, Guilford, MO.
