Genienne (Genie) Carol Gourley, 54, passed away on December 18th, 2025, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Genie was born on April 13th, 1971, to Ty and Shirley Henson, the first of three children.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Ann Henson, maternal grandparents, Leonard Elliott and Edyth Elliott, paternal grandparents, Jay Henson and Verona Hilton, uncle Larry Elliott, and cousin Kelli Marie Dorsey.
She is survived by her husband, Craig Gourley, parent-in-laws Steve and Pat Gourley, her son Zachary Woodson, daughter Katelyn Woodson, son Noah Gourley, her sister Candi Rawlings, brother Nathan Henson, and sister-in-law Chris Zubenko.
Genie was raised in Kansas City where she attended Winnetonka High School, the class of 1990. She loved spending time at home raising her children. She was well known working in the cafeteria for both the North Kansas City School District and the Platte County R-III School District. She loved working with the schools and made many lifelong friends working alongside other employees. Gen was known for her kind and generous heart. Her favorite time of the year was the Christmas season where she would spend months striving to find the perfect gifts for everyone she knew. She loved to share stories about her children and their accomplishments in school and work. She also enjoyed reading, a good candle, having lunch with friends and family, and family vacations to warm destinations.
Gen was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease in April of 2021. She fought many health battles and received the gift of a new kidney in October of 2025. She was filled with gratitude and excited to regain a more active lifestyle, especially planning a family trip to the Florida coast.
The visitation and service will be held at the Rollins Funeral Home at 1106 East Branch St., Platte City, MO, 64079, at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 29th. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
