Delores J Smith, 92, passed away on September 22, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.
Delores was born November 7, 1930, in Mound City, MO. Her parents were the late Louie L and Ester R (Nauman) Field. Delores graduated from Mound City High School in 1948 and attended Gard Business School in St. Joseph.
On December 31, 1949, Delores married Sidney E Smith. The high school sweethearts celebrated 70 years of marriage before Sidney’s passing on May 21, 2020. Their greatest gift from God was their son, Stanley E Smith, born on September 5, 1957. He died on August 25, 2003.
After graduation, Delores was secretary to Lester A Vonderschmidt, attorney and Speaker of the House of Representatives in Jefferson City. At a later date, she was also receptionist for Dr. Muriel Joy, DDS.
Delores was a charter member of the Omega Club, a member of the Christian Fellowship Church and a friend to many.
Delores had two brothers: Roland L Field and wife, P.J. and Robert D Field and wife, Barbara.
Survivors include her grandchildren: Misty (Mark) Allen and Jeremy Smith; and her great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Levi Watts, Hudson and Parker Allen, and Joshua, Austin and Shelby Smith.
Services will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery following the service.
