St. Joseph police have identified the youth killed outside the St. Joseph REC Center early Thursday morning.
Police identify the teenager as 15-year-old Carter P. Smith of St. Joseph.
The St. Joseph Police Department reports it began receiving calls about a shooting shortly before three o’clock Thursday morning. Officers responded to the 2600 block of South 28th Street, near the REC Center. They discovered Smith, a white male, dead at the scene. Police later called it a targeted shooting.
An investigation continues.
A 16-year-old has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. No other identification has been released, because the suspect is a juvenile.
