6 injured in 4-vehicle Buchanan County crash

BUCHANAN COUNTY —Six people were injured in a 4-vehicle crash just before 6:30p.m. Friday in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Peterbilt semi driven by Hunter A. Kathol, 22, Irene, South Dakota, was southbound on Interstate 29 just south of the downtown St. Joseph exit approaching vehicles slowing for construction traffic.

The semi rear-ended a 2013 Toyota Camry driven by Linda K. Brown, 44, St. Joseph. The impact pushed the Camry into a 2009 Ford Escape driven by Sherry B. Johnson, 54, Raymore. The impact pushed the Ford off the east side of the highway.

After impact, the Camry continued south and struck a 2017 Mitsubishi SUV driven by Christina A. Nikes, 53, Savannah.

A private vehicle transported Brown and three passengers in the Camry identified as Courtney J. Brown, 22; Zonlin N. Yang, 23; and a 17-year-old boy all of St. Joseph  to Mosaic Life Care. Buchanan County EMS transported Nikes and a passenger in the SUV Lorna R. Protzman, 55, Savannah, to Mosaic. Kathol and Johnson were not injured. All were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.
