Join the Missouri Department of Conservation in celebrating the angler community on National Kids to Parks Day at Corby Pond in St. Joseph on May 16.

This national day of outdoor exploration, held annually on the third Saturday of May, is designed to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks. Whether you are a seasoned pro or have never held a rod, everyone is invited to join in for a day of fun and fishing.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says all fishing gear will be provided. Everyone is encouraged to share their best tips, tricks, and legendary "monster fish" stories throughout the day. The event takes place from 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged, however walk-in registrations will also be available on-site.

No prior experience is required—just a willingness to get your line wet. MDC teams will have you casting with confidence in no time, and by the end of the session, you’ll be ready to head out on your own to catch your very first fish.

To ensure a comfortable experience, please wear clothing and closed-toed shoes suitable for outdoor and water activities. The MDC also recommends bringing sunglasses, a water bottle, and sunscreen. Please note that for safety reasons, all children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

While fishing permits are not required during this specific event, participants 16 and older are encouraged to purchase one so they can continue their angling journey afterward.

Each participant must register individually via the Missouri Department of Conservation website. If you have questions or need assistance with the registration process, please feel free to email the instructor directly.
