A 51-year-old Gower woman drowned after floodwaters swept her sport utility vehicle off a road on the Buchanan-Clinton County line Saturday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identifies the victim as Jolene Fader.

The patrol reports floodwaters forced the SUV off the left side of Northwest County Line Road shortly after nine o’clock Saturday morning. The SUV landed in Castille Creek, about two miles south of Gower. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office reports two passengers escaped the vehicle, but Fader could not get out of the SUV and drowned. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Clinton County Coroner Lee Hanks.

Clinton County deputies and the water rescue team from the Gower Fire Department responded as did deputies from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

“This is a strong reminder to NOT drive through flood waters,” the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office states in a Facebook post on the incident.
