With deep sorrow, we announce that Roy Blair Brown, 88, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Known as "Pops" to his family and friends, Roy was a cherished member of the community.
Roy was born on December 23, 1936, in Penn Run, Pennsylvania to Jay and Naomi Brown. After graduating from Girard College in 1954, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army. He dedicated over 22 years to military service, serving as Military Police (MP) and a combat engineer, and ultimately reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4). His service included tours in Korea, Vietnam, Greenland, and Germany, and his dedication earned him numerous awards, including the Bronze Star, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.
After retiring from his distinguished military career, Roy moved to Stanberry, Missouri where he worked for Union Carbide/Eveready Battery Company for over 20 years before retiring a second time in 2000.
Roy was a patriot, mentor, father, husband, and loyal friend. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and rallies, and enjoyed watching football. He lived by the mantra "Live to Ride, Ride to Live" and embraced life on his own terms.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Dottie, and his sister, Nancy C. Tuel. He was a devoted family man and is survived by his three sons #1 Jay Blair Brown (Larenza) of Smithville, Missouri, #2 Kevin "Scott" Brown (Marylee) of Charleston, South Carolina, and #3 Jeffrey Roy Brown (Kimberly) of South Carolina; seven grandchildren Kandi M. Kapinus, Alyssa D. Brown, Ashlee M. Brown, Kody L. Brown, Conor B. Brown, Ronald W. Kissick, and Amy N. Swartz; several great(s) grandchildren; his brother Charles L. Brown (Patti); his sister Cheryl S. Tuder (Tom); and extended family. Roy is also survived by many friends.
The family will gather with friends 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Monday, April 28, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Gathering will be followed by a celebration of Roy’s life at 6:30 to 9:30 P.M., Monday, April 28, Fairview Golf Course. Inurnment Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors at a later date.
