Gary A. VanDorn, born on July 10, 1934 in Axtell, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 17, 2026, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Raised around Vliets, Kansas. Gary graduated from Frankfort High School in Frankfort, Kansas. Proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for three years, nine months, with nine months being in Germany. He worked at Bartlett Grain Co., Lincoln Grain Co., and Village East Towers. Gary was a member of the American Legion Post 359 and attended church at Wesley United Methodist Church.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Connie (Steck) VanDorn; parents, Florance and Arthur VanDorn; sister, Twyla VanDorn Landreth; brothers-in-law, Bill Landreth and Larry Steck; brother, Gale VanDorn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lyle and Lela Steck.
Gary is survived by his son, Randy VanDorn; daughter-in-law, Raylene VanDorn; daughter, Julie VanDorn; seven grandchildren, Randy Jr., Ryan, Josh, Samantha, Candice, Tiffany, and Kyle; sisters-in-law, Dee VanDorn, Vicki Steck, and Laura Steck; brother-in-law, Dick Steck and his wife, Pat Steck; as well as 16 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 30, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
